Scott Dinsmore is the founder of Live Your Legend, but is probably best known for his TED talk:
Considering this is my favorite TED talk ever, I was extremely saddened to hear last night that Scott died last year while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
I never met the guy personally, but from everything I’ve seen and read, the guy walked his talk. During the climb, he was actually int he middle of a year-long trip with his wife. They’d sold most of their possessions and were traveling the world together.
Everyone who knew Scott personally such as Leo Babauta says that he was always full of life and lit up the room. He was known for always pushing himself and those around him to chase their dreams and really get the most out of life.
This hit home to me last night more than anything else I’ve read or heard about lately. Scott was only 33 years old, just 2 years older than myself, and he accomplished so much. His video has been viewed millions of times. Thousands of people are members of Live Your Legend. He has influenced other major influencers like Leo, which then impacts his readers.
In short- I want to be like Scott. Obviously nobody can follow his exact path, and I know his path isn’t mine. I already have a child and another on the way. I’m in the middle of a graduate degree being paid for by the government, so it’d be silly for me to completely drop it right now- especially since I love it.
But I do want to be like Scott in the sense of wanting to have a major impact on the world. I think he was a great example of someone chasing after what he really wanted, and that’s something we should all do. Whether it means we become a blogger, baker, teacher, waste disposal man or whatever it is.
